Buttercrunch Lettuce is a kind of lettuce which grows in a full sun to part shade. This lettuce matures for 21 days for growing their leaves, and 55 days for heads. Each head can grow up to 6 to 8 inches. When planting this, the soil should be "well-drained, and nutrient-rich soil". This is best to plant early in spring and/or fall. This type of lettuce is best from 45 to 80 degrees temperature. The hotter the weather, the bitter the lettuce is. Otherwise, in the cold weather, the lettuce will grow sweeter.
For harvesting the lettuce, try picking up the lettuce from outer leaves and allow the middle part leaves to grow and enlarge. It can also harvest by cutting up the entire plant leaving the roots. Baby leaves of the buttercrunch lettuce can be use for a salad.
Me and my Dad has our own garden back home(Philippines). We used to plant Chilis, Tomatoes, Papaya, Eggplant, Squash, and many more. Almost everyday, we use those vegetable for our daily meals. Here in Canada, some of my relatives has their own garden on their backyards which I always visit. They plant vegetables as well as we used to grow back home.
We are required to plant a seed and I chose to plant this Buttercrunch Lettuce. As per the package says:
"Requires full sun and rich, well-drained soil. Start indoors in pots or flats 4-6weeks before outdoor planting or sow direct in the garden after danger of frost has passed. Sow thinly in rows or broadcast and cover very lightly, no more than 1/4"/0.5 cm deep. Thin or transplant to 20-30cm/8-12" apart. Keep evenly moist. Summer heat causes bolting and leaves get bitter. Successive sowings extend the harvesting season. Matures in 50-75 days."
This is the result of my plant.. I am surprised that it grows so fast.
